Ruben Loftus-Cheek revealed how he felt about not being able to play in his original position during his time at Chelsea.
British media outlet ‘Evening Standard’ reported on the 14th (Korean time) that “AC Milan’s Loftus-Cheek claimed he was not happy with the role he was given at Chelsea.”
According to the Evening Standard, Loftus-Cheek said: “I’ve played mainly in a defensive position for the last two years. It was awkward for me. Loftus-Cheek showed good performance in attack along with Eden Hazard. He had a great season for Curry, scoring 10 goals and 5 assists in 40 games, including cup competitions. However, he suffered an Achilles tendon injury during an event at the end of the season.
His position was reduced due to injury and he went on loan to Fulham. Afterwards, an opportunity came when manager Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea. However, he was used as a wingback or midfielder rather than as a winger, which was his main position. During his two seasons, Loftus-Cheek played his game in the position the team needed him to play rather than his preferred position.
Ultimately, Loftus-Cheek left Chelsea this summer and headed to AC Milan to take on a new challenge. Loftus-Cheek wore the shirt of AC Milan alongside Chelsea teammate Christian Pulisic. Loftus-Cheek won a starting position at AC Milan. He has appeared in all three games since the opening and has already recorded two assists.
Loftus-Cheek is happy with his time at AC Milan. “I’ve had a lot of different roles throughout my career,” said Loftus-Cheek. “It feels good to be playing in a more free position now.” Meanwhile, AC Milan is in second place in the league with three consecutive wins since the opening season.
